Workshop 1
Title: Applying Artificial Intelligence Effectively to Signal Processing Applications
Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to improve signal processing systems for various real-world signals, such as audio, biomedical, radar, and wireless. Building AI systems throws up challenges ranging from managing large multimodal datasets, data preprocessing and feature extraction as required, model creation, comparing performance across multiple models, fine tuning the model, and deploying models for use in real life applications.
MATLAB helps address these issues through interactively preprocessing of data, feature engineering, building AI models, and deployment AI systems on the edge or the cloud. In this workshop, we will discuss how to address these challenges effectively using MATLAB and Simulink.
The session will comprise of 4 sections, each with a hands-on component:
- Feature engineering and extraction, wavelet and time-frequency transformations, and their effective use in AI applications.
- Application of long-short term memory (LSTM) networks for multi class signal classification problems.
- Integration of MATLAB/Simulink and Python-based frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Open discussion on research challenges, and walk-on topics from the audience.
At the end of this workshop, participants may expect to be familiar with AI workflows for signal processing applications.
All atendees of the workshop are requested to bring laptops for hands-on.
Who Should Attend: Signal Processing / AI Practitioners, Researchers.
Duration: 120 minutes with a break in between.
Date and Time: 22 August 2025 | 10:30 AM to 12:45 PM
Speakers: Praful Pai, PhD
Praful Pai is a Manager, EECS, Signal Processing and Communications at MathWorks, makers of MATLAB & Simulink. Mini-Series Theme: Synergy of Chapters – Bridging Innovation across India
Hosted by: IEEE Gujarat Section
Supported by: IEEE R10 Section Chapter Committee
Date: August 23
Venue: Marwadi University
Duration: One Full Day (10:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
Target Participants: Chapter and Section representatives across India Council
To promote collaboration, capacity building, and knowledge exchange among chapters across India, IEEE Gujarat Section is organizing a one-day IEEE R10 Section Chapter Committee (SCC) Mini-Series event under the umbrella of Gujarat Section. The objective of this mini-series is to create a vibrant platform where different sections and their chapters can connect, share best practices, and explore opportunities for joint initiatives. The theme for the event is Collaborate, Create, Contribute Power of Chapters, focusing on empowering chapter volunteers, showcasing impactful activities, and enabling inter-chapter synergy.
Proposed One-Day Program Structure
